Surgery Day

Two weeks ago, Sydney had surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids and to have tubes placed in her ears. She was at Primary Children's here in Salt Lake.

These pics are from Jason's phone so they are small. I don't know why but at least I got them here! This is her pre-surgery talk with the nurse. She is happy because she remembers that she gets to go to the beach toy room after this because of her orientation from the previous week.

The things she was looking forward to most were at the hospital. During her orientation she got to choose her mode of transportation into surgery. She chose a big wheel and was so excited to ride it. They also have a cool slushy machine that she was really looking forward to trying out.

She didn't even care that we left her when she was riding her big wheel back to surgery with the anaesthesiologist Dr. Smith. She was so focused on that bike and the bubble gum gas she was going to receive to put her to sleep.

The surgery went well and her Dr. said her tonsils were absolutely enormous. We knew that looking at them but it was confirmed when he took them out. The hardest part of the whole thing was her coming out of the anaesthesia. She was quite confused and crying and kicking. Very sad memory of mine. But, she came around after about half an hour and was eating slushy and Sprite within a little while.

They had her stay at the hospital for about 4 hours to observe, we lucked into a private room and she watched a couple of movies with her pink unicorn Erica.

Every once in a while she would put the oxygen on Erica to make sure she was breathing properly.

During her delirium and thrashing about when she was coming out of the anaesthesia she kept crying and saying she wanted to go home. I was happy to get her going!

Snoozing at home after the fact... Primary Children's does a great job! Syd had some sleep apnea due to her huge tonsils and now she doesn't even snore! We are thrilled with the results of the surgery and are glad she's doing better. The night of her surgery she started eating real food again. It was amazing, but the dr. said whenever she wanted to eat she could. So, away she went. She didn't sleep really well for about 10 days but she's completely back to herself now. Wahoo for that.
